Monthly costs
Rent, utilities, required fees, insurance, parking, tolls and transit. Compare actual property costs rather than a neighborhood average.
Military resources · housing allowance
Basic Allowance for Housing can help eligible service members meet housing costs. Start with the official rate for your duty station, then compare the whole household budget.
Use the source
BAH normally follows your permanent duty-station ZIP, not the ZIP of the home you choose. Select the correct year, duty ZIP and pay grade in the official calculator, then use the correct dependency column. Confirm unusual assignments and individual rate protection with your finance office.
Use the official calculator for current rates by duty-station ZIP, pay grade and dependency status. For future-year rates, wait for the official release.
Beyond the rent
Rent, utilities, required fees, insurance, parking, tolls and transit. Compare actual property costs rather than a neighborhood average.
Deposits, application charges, temporary accommodation and overlap between housing dates. A delayed delivery does not automatically change a lease.
Evaluate mortgage principal and interest, taxes, insurance, association fees and reserves with a qualified lender. BAH alone is not mortgage approval.
Keep perspective
Published BAH is not a guarantee of approval, a mandated asking rent or a promise that every household will cover housing from BAH alone. Shop by your needs and full financial picture.
